Given:

A chart in the question consisting of the sweets & namkins, their stocks and prices in a sweet shop.

To find:

Question 1.1: After purchasing 500gm of sweet laddu, jalebi and barfi each, Ram had ₹150 left with  him. How much money does Ram had before the purchase? Show your work.

Question 1.2:Ram wants to purchase one packet of Mix-Namkin and two packets of potato chips with  the remaining ₹150. Explain whether he can purchase it or not.

Question 1.3: Rahim had ₹200 and wants to purchase one packet of Mix-Namkin, one packet of potato  chips, 250gm Sweet laddu and one bottle of cold drink. But due to insufficient money he had to reduce  the quantity of one of the item. Find out the name of that item along with reason.

Question 1.4:David had ₹250 and wants to purchase those items which were not purchased by his  friends. Choose the correct list of items he will purchase.

(i)Jalebi

(ii) Roasted Dry fruits

(iii) Barfi

(iv) Potato chips

Solution:

Answer 1.1: Finding the money Ram had before purchase:

We know,

  • 1 kg = 1000 gms

So,

500 gms = \frac{500}{1000} kg = 0.5 kg

From the given chart we can do the following calculations:

The cost of 0.5 kg of sweet laddu = 0.5 kg × Rs. 400 = Rs. 200

The cost of 0.5 kg of jalebi = 0.5 kg × Rs. 360 = Rs. 180

The cost of 0.5 kg of barfi = 0.5 kg × Rs. 300 = Rs. 150

Also, Ram had left Rs. 150 left with him after purchase

∴ The total money Ram had before purchased all the 3 items is,

= 200 + 180 + 150 + 150

= Rs. 680

Thus, \boxed{\bold{Ram \:had\:\underline{Rs.\:680}\:before\:purchase\:.}}

Answer 1.2: Finding whether Ram can purchase it or not:

The cost of 1 packet of mix-namkin = Rs. 80

The cost of 2 packets of potato chips = Rs. 30 × 2 = Rs. 60

∴ The total cost of both the items = Rs. 80 + Rs. 60 = Rs. 140

But, it is given that he want to purchase both the given items with the remaining money Rs. 150.

Therefore, we can conclude that as the total cost of items is less than the money he is left with, so he will be able to purchase it.

Thus, \boxed{\bold{Yes,\:he\:can\:purchase\:it.}}

Answer 1.3: Finding the name of that item along with reason:

The cost of 1 packet of mix-namkin = Rs. 80

The cost of 1 packet of potato chips = Rs. 30

The cost of 250 gm of sweet laddu = \frac{250}{1000} \times 400 = 0.25\times 400 = Rs. 100

The cost of 1 bottle of cold drink = Rs. 50

Thus, \boxed{\bold{The\:quantity\:of\:\underline{sweet\:laddu} \:\:had\:to\:be\:reduced.}}

The reason why the quantity of sweet laddu had to be reduced:

  • Since a single quantity of mix-namkin, potato chips & cold drink was bought, so we cannot reduce the quantity of these 3 items.
  • Rather the quantity of sweet laddu can be reduced to fit in the budget of Rs. 200 of Rahim.

Answer 1.4: Finding the correct list of items David will purchase:

David had Rs. 250 with him

We know,

Ram had bought: Sweet laddu, Jalebi, Barfi, Mix-Namkin & Potato Chips

Rahim had bought: Sweet laddu, Cold Drink, Mix-Namkin & Potato Chips

Since David will not buy the items Ram and Rahim had bought.

∴ From the given list of items, he can only purchase Roasted dry fruits with the money of Rs. 250 he had.

Thus, \boxed{\bold{He\:will\:purchase\:\underline{option \:(ii)-Roasted\:Dry\:Fruits. }}}

Answer:

Answer 1.1: Finding the money Ram had before purchase:

We know,

1 kg = 1000 gms

So,

500 gms =  = 0.5 kg

From the given chart we can do the following calculations:

The cost of 0.5 kg of sweet laddu = 0.5 kg × Rs. 400 = Rs. 200

The cost of 0.5 kg of jalebi = 0.5 kg × Rs. 360 = Rs. 180

The cost of 0.5 kg of barfi = 0.5 kg × Rs. 300 = Rs. 150

Also, Ram had left Rs. 150 left with him after purchase

∴ The total money Ram had before purchasing all the 3 items is,

= 200 + 180 + 150 + 150

= Rs. 680

Thus,

Answer 1.2: Finding whether Ram can purchase it or not:

The cost of 1 packet of mix-namkin = Rs. 80

The cost of 2 packets of potato chips = Rs. 30 × 2 = Rs. 60

∴ The total cost of both the items = Rs. 80 + Rs. 60 = Rs. 140

But, it is given that he wants to purchase both the given items with the remaining money Rs. 150.

Therefore, we can conclude that as the total cost of items is less than the money he is left with, so he will be able to purchase them.

Thus,

Answer 1.3: Finding the name of that item along with the reason:

The cost of 1 packet of mix-namkin = Rs. 80

The cost of 1 packet of potato chips = Rs. 30

The cost of 250 gm of sweet laddu =  Rs. 100

The cost of 1 bottle of cold drink = Rs. 50

Thus,

The reason why the quantity of sweet laddu had to be reduced:

Since a single quantity of mix-namkin, potato chips & cold drink was bought, so we cannot reduce the quantity of these 3 items.

Rather the quantity of sweet laddu can be reduced to fit in the budget of Rs.

250 he had.
