Let the base be AB and the point where the ladder touched the wall be C.
By Pythagoras theorem,
AC^2=AB^2+BC^2
15^2= a^2+12^2
225-144=a^2
a= square root of 81 (sorry could not find the symbol of root)
a=9
Thus the foot of the ladder is 9m from the wall

base square +perpendicular  square whole root is hypotenous
