Well, this is indeed (quite) a tricky question for individuals like me.


Anyways, here's my try at it.


Let ABC be the equilateral triangle of each side measuring 2a cm.


Through A draw a line perpendicular to base BC, in simple words, Just half it. Name it D.


Now you should have:


A right angle triangle.

1. Hypotenuse (AC or AB)

2. Base BC= ( ½ of 2a) 1a

3. Altitude AD.


Now you know which formula is in need to be applied. Indeed the Pythagoras theorem. Here's what I profound in my results:


AC²=AD²+DC²


Hence 2a²=AD²+ 1a²

=> 4a²=AD²+1a²

=> 4a²-1a²=AD²


3a²=AD²

Hence, √AD=√3a²


Altitude(AD)= SQUARE ROOT OF 3A²

√3a²
