Mayank has a cuboidal shaped container with square base and Mohit’s container is

cylindrical shaped. The dimensions of Mayank’s container are 10cm x 10cm x 0.5m.

When both the containers are filled with lemon juice up to the brim, Mohit has got 4.4

litre of juice. Both containers are open at top.

a) How much juice Mayank has in litres?

b) Find the diameter of Mohit’s container if the height is 70cm.

c) Find the ratio of their surface areas.

d) Calculate area of the bottom of Mohit’s container.

e) If the radius of Mohit’s container is doubled and height is halved, what will be its

capacity now?

Given : Mayank has a cuboidal shaped container with square base

Mohit’s container is  cylindrical shaped.

The dimensions of Mayank’s container are 10cm x 10cm x 0.5m.

Mohit has got 4.4  litre of juice.

Both containers are open at top.

To Find : a) How much juice Mayank has in litres?

b) Find the diameter of Mohit’s container if the height is 70cm.

c) Find the ratio of their surface areas.

d) Calculate area of the bottom of Mohit’s container.

e) If the radius of Mohit’s container is doubled and height is halved, what will be its   capacity now?

Solution:

juice Mayank has in litres

0.5 m = 50 cm

Volume = 10 x 10 x 50  = 5000 cm³

1000 cm³=  1 litre

=> Volume = 5  litre

juice Mayank has in litres = 5

diameter of Mohit’s container if the height is 70cm.

Volume of mohit   = πr²h =  πd²h/4

r = radius , d = diameter

Volume of mohit  = 4.4 litre = 4400 cm³

(22/7)d²(70)/4 = 4400

=> d² = 80

=> d = 8.94 cm

inner and outer surface areas are same for both

Surface area of Cuboid  = 10x 10  + 2(10 x 50 + 10 x 50) = 2100 cm²

surface area of cylinder  = πd²/4  +  πdh  = 20π + 625.8π = 2,029  cm²

Ratio  = 2100/2029 = 1.035

area of the bottom of Mohit’s container =  πd²/4

= (22/7)*20

= 62.85 cm²

radius of Mohit’s container is doubled and height is halved,

(2² / 2) = 2  - capacity will be doubled
