Is this the correct way of writing date? Justify

In some countries month is written before the date.

This causes confusion.

Above date in India is 16–1–2012

In America it is 1–16-2012

But the fomat I gave is valid all over the world.

The correct way to write date of birth is DD-MM-YYYY

So, Mayur wrote it in the correct way which is

16-01-2012
