Given:

The Mean of 100 numbers was found to be 50

To find:

The correct mean

Solution:

As it is given in the question that one of the number 150 was wrongly taken as 50,

It is given in the question that the mean of the 100 numbers is 50

so the sum of the observation will be

  • 100×50
  • 5000

As per the condition the new sum of the observation will be;

  • 5000-50+150
  • 5000+100
  • 5100

We have given the 100 numbers

So the mean is given by:

Mean = Sum of observation/Total number of observation

  • Mean = 5100/100
  • Mean = 51

So the new mean will be 51
