Answer:

18+24+15+2x+1+12/6=21=mean

median=n+1/2

n=total=6

6+1/2

7/2=3.5

3rd +4th observation

15+2x+1

16+2x

2x=16

x=16/2

x=8

put x=8

2x+1

2(8)+1

16+1

17

3rd +4th /2

15+17/2

32/2

16

Step-by-step explanation:

Since ,

Mean = Sum of the values of the all observation/Total no of observation

  • Given that Mean = 21
  • and no of observation = 5

So,

21 =  \frac{18 + 24 + 15 + 2x + 1 + 12}{5}  \\  \\  =  > 21 \times 5 = 70 + 2x \\  =  > 105 - 70 = 2x \\  =  > x =  \frac{35}{2}  \\  =  > x = 17.5

Therefore, required value of x is : 17.5

To find median:

First arrange the value in ascending order.

So,

given data,

18, 24, 15, 36, and 12

After arrange:

12, 15, 18, 24, 36

Since,

Median = (n+1)/2 th observation. [since, here no of observation is 5 i.e. odd]

So,

Median = (5+1)/2 th observation.

= 3rd observation.

= 18

Therefore, Median = 18

Note: ***If no .of observation is even, then

Median =[n/2 th observation + ((n/2)+1)th observation]/2***
