mean of 4 observations is 12. if first second third and fourth observation are decreased by 1,2,3 and 4 respectively then find the new mean

Mean = sum of observations/ number of observations
12= sum / 4
=>sum = 48

New sum will be 48-1-2-3-4=48-10=38

new mean = 38/4=9.5
