The total of the first 8 observations is 8(18) = 144
The total of the last 8 obsrvations is 8(20) = 160

the total of all 15 is 15(19) = 285

160 + 144 = 304
but this counts the 8th observation twice, which is 304 - 285 = 19

the 8th observation is 19

Answer:

The total of the first 8 observations is 8(18) = 144

The total of the last 8 obsrvations is 8(20) = 160

the total of all 15 is 15(19) = 285

160 + 144 = 304

but this counts the 8th observation twice, which is 304 - 285 = 19

the 8th observation is 19.
