17

GIVEN :-

  • MEAN OF SIX OBSERVATIONS = 17
  • FIVE OBSERVATIONS = 14 , 9 , 23 , 25 , 10

TO FIND :-

  • SIXTH OBSERVATION

SOLUTION :-

LET THE SIXTH ONSERVATION BE x

ARITHMETIC MEAN (A.M) = (SUM OF OBSERVATIONS) / (NUMBER OF OBSERVATIONS )

 =  > 17 =  \frac{14 + 9 + 23 + 25 + 10 + x}{6}  \\  \\  =  > 102 = 81 + x \\  \\  =  > x = 102 - 81  \\  \\  =  > x = 21

SIXTH OBSERVATION = 21

FORMULAE USED :-

i) \: arithmetic \: mean \:  =  \frac{sum \: of \: observations}{number \: of \: observations }  \\

Answer:

6th observation is 21

Step-by-step explanation:

mean of 6 observation=17

five observation=14,9,23,25,10

let the 6th observation be x

so,

mean =no of observation/ total no of observation

17=14+9+23+25+10+x/6

17=81+x/6

17×6=81+x

102=81+x

x=102-81

x=21

hence , sixth observation is 21
