Concept:

Mean is the arithmetic average of a given set of data. It is given by dividing the summation of data by the no of data in the given set.

Given:

The mean of variable x is 9

Find:

We are asked to find the mean of variable y = x + 4.

Solution:

As the mean of the variable x is 9,
To find the mean of variable  y = x + 4,
mean of y = (mean of x) + 4

∴ mean of  y = 9 + 4 = 13

Thus, the mean of variable y is 13.
