Meanders are formed in plains where velocity of river comes down considerabily.Due to slow speed rivers start depositing sediments.Due to sediment deposition river changes course .
The deposition initially is crescent shaped, its Fluid Dynamic. Its the same reason why the river starts bending bending on plains .
