(4) Gorakhpur and Dhavaleswaram

Explanation:

Gorakhpur

  • Gorakhpur is situated along the Rapti and Rohani River banks, which are a Nepalese Ganges tributary causing severe floods in some cases.  The  Rapti  is  interconnected  through many  other  small  rivers  following  meandering  courses  across  the Gangetic  Plain.
  • The district has characteristics which vary from the natural characteristics of the Western Uttar Pradesh districts. It is primarily because of the Himalayan proximity which is only a few kilometers from the north boundaries of the outermost foothills.  The peak of Dhaulagiri, approximately 8,230 meters above sea level, can be seen south of Gorakhpur under favorable weathers.

Dowleswaram

  • Dowleswaram is a part of Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation in East Godavari district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It too has small rivers that follow a meandering course.
  • At the source of the great delta, Dowlaiswaram is located. In the middle of the nineteenth century, a dam was constructed over 2 miles (3 km) across the river by British civil engineer Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton to provide irrigation canals. The Delta area that surrounds mainly the agricultural town is divided between rice fields, gardenses and villages. The dam has a road along its top
