aerial roots grow above the soil.they are also called neumatophores. 
example:banyan

Aerial roots are the roots which grow above the ground level these are adventitious roots modified for different purposes
examples of aerial roots:
1.)banyan have pillar roots 
2.)mangroves which grow in swampy regions --pneumatophores(breathing roots)
