Exothermic and endothermic are the terms which are used to describe types of chemical reactions.

In Exothermic reaction, heat is released as a product while in endothermic reactions heat absorbed.

Example-

Exothermic reaction -CaO + H2O → Ca(OH)2 + Heat

Endothermic reaction-CaCO3(s) ->CaO(s) + CO (Heat is denoted here on arrow with a triangle as it is absorbed)
