Half infinity sign?

What does this sign mean? Its basically an infinity sign but on the right, the circle doesn't complete. Thanks.

As you have noted, the symbol you describe looks like an infinity symbol with the right half of its right loop chopped off. It is not an alpha, but I will use the Greek letter α to approximate it, however imperfectly.

If I remember correctly, it is a relational operator that means "is proportional to." By putting a multiplicative constant on the right, the relationship can be converted to "is equal to."

For example, the Inverse Square Law can be written as

I α 1/r²

where

I is the intensity of light falling on a surface, and

r is the distance from the (point) source of light.

This can be expressed in English as "I is inversely proportional to r-squared." This can be converted to an equality by sticking in an arbitrary constant of proportionality, e.g.,

I = k / r²

The definition of the half infinity sign is:

  • In fact, there are different theatre ideas in terms of half term.
  • Many people say that the infinite fraction is infinite, just as the 0 fraction is 0.
  • This is really true.
  • Infinity is at the opposite end of 0, don't end up with nothing.
  • Negative numbers are theory and do not really exist, they only exist in theory, as nothing can actually be less than empty.
  • As for truth, infinity is part of infinity.
  • However, in another theoretical sense, as the following answer explains, 0 is half the infinity because it is between the good and the bad end.
