Valency is defined as number of electrons present in valence shell which are being lost, gained or shared with other atoms to form molecules and gain stability. Valency of sulphate ion i.e. SO4 is −2. (Refer to Image) Hence, metal which combines with it should have +2 valency to accept 2 electrons from sulphate ion.
