Inspiration:
During inspiration muscles of ribs contract and elevate the ribs upwards and forwards and secondly, muscles of diaphragm also contract and it becomes less domelike.this downward movement of diaphragm and outward movement of ribs causes increase in chest cavity and reduce pressure .thus lungs expand with this expansion of lungs vaccum is created in lungs so air from outside rushes into lungs.
*Expiration:
and in this ribs move downward and inward. thus space inside lung decreases moreover, muscles of diaphragm become more domelike.in this way chest cavity exerts pressure on lungs thus air from insude moves out.
