Rusting is the corrosion in iron.When iron surface comes in contact with oxygen and water, it reacts and forms a browny , flaky substance called rust.I ron being. electropositive in nature has very affinity with electronegative materials especially oxygen, thus it reacts and leads to rusting.

4Fe + 3O2 → 2Fe2O3

This is the formula of rust.
