Media today is not free from checks because :-

Some information may not be considered to be suitable to be aired on television or published in newspapers therefore, it is first reviewed by government and then aired. For example some advertisements etc.

It maybe in favor of some business houses to portray stories in their favour.

Also, at times only one side of story is focussed upon to make it more interesting.
