) of a data set is the sum of its terms divided by the number of terms.

Recall that the median of a data set is the value at the middle (the median) of the data set. In order to find the median, the data set must be arranged from lowest to highest. Once it is, we cross out one at the end, one at the beginning, one at the end, one at the beginning, and so on until we find the middle value.

Since there are an even number of terms, the median will be between the two middle values. Take the average of the two:

5.5

The mode of a data set is the element that appears most frequently. Since each element in this data set is unique and only appears one time, there is no mode.

Explanation:

The median is also the number that is halfway into the set. To find the median, the data should be arranged in order from least to greatest. If there is an even number of items in the data set, then the median is found by taking the mean (average) of the two middlemost numbers.

BY SIMPLE METHOD

4, 5, 9, 2, 6, 8, 7, 1

can be written as

1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

here 5 and 6 are median but we want one value

thereby average of 5 and 6 is 10.5

HOW TO CALCULATE MEDIAN

(1) Arrange them in ascending order

(2) Find the numbers of terms

(3) If odd number of terms median is (n+1)/2th term

(4) If even number of terms median is (n)/2th and (n+1)/2 then we will take average of those two terms
