Solution :-

The median will not change if the largest 8 numbers are increased by 10. The median of the new group also will be 55.

Explanation :-

When we calculate the median in an individual series, first of all we arrange the terms of the series in ascending or descending order.

In this case, the total number of terms of the series are 20. In this case, the 20 terms of the series are arranged in ascending order and then mean of the two middle terms is taken as median.

So, the median in this case will be -

Median = Size of the [(N + 1)/2]th item

= size of [(20 + 1)/2]th item

= Size of (11/2)th item

= 5.5th item

= [(10th term + 11th term)/2]th item

And, we are increasing the value of largest 8 terms by 10. These 8 terms are from 13th to 20th position in the ascending order of the terms. So, these 8 terms will not affect the value of median.

So, the value of median will remain same. Median of the new group will be 55.
