Microbes are used in the field of medicine to extract many useful antibiotics. Bacteria like streptomyces is used to produce streptomycin. Escherichia coli is used to produce human insulin called humulin by the process of genetic engineering. Bacillus subtilis is used to produce bacitracin. Aspergillus fumigatus is used to produce aspergillin. Penicillium notatum is used to produce the wonder drug called penicillin.
