The biome is generally characterized by dry summers and rainy winters, although in some areas rainfall may be uniform. Summers are typically hot in low-lying inland locations but can be cool near colder seas.

In the temperate zone on the Western side of the continent is a reason that receives rainfall in winter and have relatively dry summer. Trees where remain evergreen as they adapt to the dry summer they have waxy and thick barks. The commentary found here are cork oak, olive, maple, cedar and pine. Citrus roots are cultivated on a large scale in this region.

These forests are found in south and European countries like France, Italy, Spain, central chile, south-western Australia and California. We find many animals and birds here including wolves, foxes, wild boars, rabbits, vultures and eagles.
