From the earliest times people believed that monuments contained gold  or some enigmatic ash which could convert any metal into gold.The main concentration of megalithic monuments defining the Iron  Age culture can be found in the South Indian states of Kerala, Tamil  Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra .Megaliths were constructed either as burial sites or commemorative (non-sepulchral) memorials
