Aim - to find the area of a circle using the area of a rectangle with the help of colour paper and scissors
Materials Required - White paper, Coloured sketch pens, pair of scissors, fevicol, geometry box
Procedure -
1. Draw a circle of any radius on a sheet of paper using a compass
2. Cut the circle out
3. Fold it along the diameter to get two semicircles. Fold it again to get quarter circles. Repeat the process till it looks like a small sector.
4. Press and unfold the circle to get 16 equal sectors
5. Colour half of this circle with one colour say A, and the other half with another colour say B
6. Cut the 16 sectors individually
7. Cut one sector of colour B into half
8. Arrange these seventeen sectors alternatively to form a rectangle.
Observation - The area of the rectangle is the same as the area of the circle
Length of the rectangle = 0.5 x circumference of the circle
The breadth of rectangle = radius of the circle
