Mehak is now four times as old as his brother Rohit. In 4 years time, her
age will be twice of Rohit’s age. What are their present ages?

Let us assume, the present age of Mehak is x years and the present age of Rohit is y years.

Given:

x = 4y --------------1

Also given, after 4 years,

x + 4 = 2 ( y + 4)

x + 4 = 2y + 8

x - 2y = 4 -----------------2

Substitute the value of x from equation 1 in equation 2

4y - 2y = 4

2y = 4

y = 2 years

Therefore, x = 4y = 4 * 2 = 8 years

Answer - The age of Mehak is 8 years and the age of Rohit is 2 years.

Then, the age of Mehak will be 4x

After 4years,

Rohit's age = x + 4

Mehak's age = 4x + 4

According to the given condition in question the equation form is :

Therefore,

Present age of Rohit = x = 2years

Present age of Mehak = 4x = 4 × 2 = 8years
