Explanation: element like Cu,Ag,Au,Zn,CD,Hg show pseudo noble gas config ns² np6 nd10 ...and they have more covalent character(CC).CC is inversely proportional to melting/boiling point. As CC of CuCl is more than NaCl so Bo of NaCl is more.

The melting point of NaCl is higher than that of CuCl.

The reasons are stated below-

  • The melting point of both NaCl and CuCl mainly depends on the electronegativity between the elements of NaCl and CuCl.
  • This means the electronegative attraction within Na and Cl is higher than the electronegative attraction between Cu and Cl.
  • We know higher the electronegativity between two elements of a compound, the stronger their ionic bonds and hence high amount of energy will be required to break these bonds.
  • Thus NaCl needs more temperature or has a higher melting point than CuCl.

Hence, the melting point of NaCl is higher than that of CuCl.
