Given :  Melvin selects six colors at random from the rainbow and inserts them into a computer program designed to give new colors.

A new color can be formed by mixing any number of colors (2 to 6) from the selected six.

To Find : How many new colors can the program generate

Solution:

Total colors  = 6

can be selected 2 , 3 , 4 , 5  or 6

Colors can be generated

= ⁶C₂  + ⁶C₃ + ⁶C₄  + ⁶C₅ + ⁶C₆

= 15  + 20  +  15  + 6  + 1

= 57
