memory plays an important role in the story fritz of satyajit ray. and this is so because it is the memory of the character named Jayanto who had gone to bundi, rajasthan when he was six years ago, and those are the memories that take him back to bundi to compare the new bundi with the old one. and on reaching bundi with his friend shankar he starts to recall memories of his childhood day he spent in that same circuit house 31 years ago. and slowly recalls the dolls which his uncle had got from Switzerland for a small village, and the man who sold it to him told him that the doll who looked very lifelike was named fritz and would respond to that name. jayanto recalled that he used to play with the doll all day and that the parts of the doll though not mechanical still could be bent. jayanto remains silent and tensed the whole time in bundi due to which shankar gives an idea to jayanto on knowing that that doll had been torn by the stary dogs and was buried under the deodar tree to dig up the same spot and confirm the only parts left of the doll where the small metals pieces. and so they made arrangements to get the spot dig up and were lest amused to find a white skeleton same as the size of fritz and they found the skeleton due to jayanto's childhood memory.
