Answers
Mendel Gregor Mendel founded the Classical Genetics. The formulas of heredity in plants namely, the law of segregation and law of independent assortment.
He performed experiments on the plant Pisum Sativum (garden pea) related to breeding. Reasons for his choice of using pea plant are that pea plants are easy to cultivate in the garden; weather is suitable; they have male and female sexual organs; cross fertilization is easily controlled; pea plant has many distinct traits and short time gaps between successive generations.
The short gap allowed him to raise many generation during
experiments. So this is the main reason for choice.
But he got really lucky in that choice. Reason:
Pisum Sativum has 7 sets of chromosomes. J Mendel studied seven characteristics. They were actually distributed on 4 different chromosomes. Two characteristics were on Chromo1, one on Chromo 5, one on chromo7, three on chromo4.
He was lucky really because he did not know at that time that they were distributed. Their being distributed over different chromosomes helped his experimental results and formation of his laws of hereditary inheritance.
