This periodic table was given by Dmitri Mendeleev, a Russian chemist in 1869.

Explanation:

  • This periodic table is the basis of Modern Periodic Table.
  • He placed the elements according to their increasing number of atomic masses, and also placed the elements in certain groups because of their similar chemical behaviour.
  • He conducted reactions on the hydride and oxides of several elements, and placed elements showing similar properties in one group.
  • He predicted about the discovery of newer elements, like he predicted an element having similar properties of Aluminium and called it Eka- Aluminium, later Gallium was discovered.
  • With the placing of elements he relied mainly on the chemical properties rather than the atomic masses.
  • For example, Iodine has lower weight than Tellurium but Iodine showed common properties with flourine, chlorine, iodine, etc. was placed with flourine, chlorine, etc.
  • Although there was many problems in this table, it cannot be denied because it was one of the first attempts in categorizing it and was widely accepted for a very long time, till the coming of the Modern Periodic Table.
