Explanation:

The properties of elements are a periodic function of their atomic masses. It was the discovery of atomic number which led to a change in Mendeleev's periodic law which was based on atomic mass. ... iii A correct position could not be assigned to Hydrogen in the periodic table.

Mendeleev's classification cannot assign position to Hydrogen.

  • Mendeleev designed the periodic table according to their atomic masses because he observed that there is a relation between chemical and physical properties of atoms with similar atomic masses.
  • But he was confused with the position of Hydrogen and could not assign a position to it because hydrogen showed the properties of both alkali metals and halogens.
