Given:

  • Menka and shalu ran a 100m race
  • Menka took 18 1/5 seconds and shalu took 21 3/4 seconds

To Find:

  • how much longer time did shalu take?

Solution:

Now we have been said that,

  • Meena took 18 1/5 seconds
  • Shalu took 21 3/4 seconds

So, in order to find how that how much more time did shalu take compared to meena we will have to subtract the time taken by menka from the time taken by shalu

 \longrightarrow \tt \:21 \dfrac{3}{4}  - 18 \dfrac{1}{5}

  • Now let's convert the mixed fractions into improper fractions

 \longrightarrow \tt   \dfrac{87}{4}  -  \dfrac{91}{5}

  • Now let's make the denominators equal

  \longrightarrow \tt \dfrac{87 \times 5}{4 \times 5}  -  \dfrac{91 \times 4}{5 \times 4}

  \longrightarrow \tt \dfrac{435}{20}  -  \dfrac{364}{20}

 \longrightarrow \tt  \dfrac{71}{20}

  • Now let's convert it into mixed fraction

  \longrightarrow { \blue{ \underline{ \boxed{\tt {3\dfrac{11}{20} }}} \star}}

Therefore:

  • Shalu took 3 11/20 seconds more than menka

 \:

 \qquad  :  \implies {21 \dfrac{3}{4} - 18 \dfrac{1}{5}  }

 \:

 \qquad :  \implies{ \dfrac{87}{4} -  \dfrac{91}{5}  }

 \:

 \qquad :  \implies({ \dfrac{87 \times 5}{4 \times 5}) -  (\dfrac{91 \times 4}{5 \times 4}  })

 \:

 \qquad  :  \implies{ \dfrac{435 - 364}{20} }
