E.c. has many powers and functions.
1. He is appointed by President but then too he is answerable to him as well as government. 
2. He looks after the country whether election held are and fair or not.
3. He exercises the same independence as the judiciary.
4. It is virtually impossible to remove him.
5. If he thinks that election held are free and fair then he can repoll in that constituency

The three major function of Election Commission of India are 
(i) Election commission takes decisions on every aspect of conduct and control of elections. 
(ii) It implements the code of convict and can punish any candidate or party that violates it. 
(iii) It controls the government officers who are posted on the election duty.
