Several diplomatic efforts were undertaken by Emperor Akbar of the Mughal empire, to enslave Maharana Pratap.

Akbar believed that Rana Pratap posed a major threat to this expansionist fantasies, by cordoning off the West coast of India from the Mughals. To defeat him, wars had been waged and fought, but to no avail. Instead, Akbar tried to win over nobles from his court, in the hope that they would eventually turn against the Maharana, and help Akbar to enslave him. Foremost among the courtiers who turned against Rana Pratap was man Singh, who was wed to a daughter of Akbar in exchange for his support.
