The Election Commission of India was formed on 25 January 1950. It is a constitutional body established for controlling, supervising, and directing the election process in India.
The Election Commission of India has various powers and functions:
The 2 functions of the EC of India are as follows:
- Under article 324 of the Indian Constitution the election commission ensures the independent and impartial functioning of the EC. So, the EC directs and controls the entire process of elections.
- It decides the election schedules for the timely conduct of the elections.
The 2 powers of the EC of India are as follows:
- Under article 324 election commission of India is an independent body so it has the power to register or deregister any political party.
- The EC also has advisory power in which it advises the president of India regarding disqualification of the members of the Parliament and the conditions for the same.
