To Understand the Partition of British India , we have to go back to the chapters of History during the early 1900’s

In 1905 , Viceroy Lord Curzon , divided the biggest province of that era British India i.e Bengal into East & West. The basis of the partition was on religious ground , where, the British employed their divide & rule policy to part the Hindu’s and Muslim’s into two different provinces. This was specifically do to break the unity and the rebellion that the people of Bengal province put up against the British forces . There was a social divide between the Muslim peasants of East Bengal & the Zamindar’s which the Brits took full advantage. How-ever this was reversed later to unify the two provinces , but, this was the beginning of the great 1947 Partition of British India.

First World War , the participation of 1.4 billion Indian soldiers representing the British army increased the reputation of British India at that time . And as a result of this the congress lead to calls of greater self -governance. This move was not very well taken by the Muslim League , who had a Pah-Islamic Ideology and the rise of congress and its closeness to the British Government at that time lead to suspicion among the Muslim league leaders regarding the future of Muslims in British India , if , self governance was eventually handed to Congress by the British. This was en cashed by the British once again to divide the Society on religious ground and curb the self -governance movement which was gaining momentum in that time. Eventually , this lead to the birth of the concept of “ Pakistan” , first proposed by Sir, Iqbal as a separate autonomous state within British India only for the Muslims of the sub-continent.

Second World-War , this period was the most turbulent time globally . On one hand their world powers where fighting the evil Nazi regime , while back home , the Independence movement gained mass proportions. The continuous struggles by Congress with its non-cooperation movements and the efforts of INA lead by Great Subhas Bose along with regular attacks on the British forces by freedom fighters made the British empire in India very much shaken from the core.
