Secularism is based on the concept of “live and let live” and that you may belong to any caste or creed but that has nothing to do with the matters of the state. Hence in light of this following are the features of secularism:
Let an individual practice his beliefs and rituals but the person should ensure that his acts dont create hurdles for othersMerit is the sole criteria for acquiring any post and not your religious/ethnic backgroundGuarantee freedom of speech but ensure that no one is allowed to spew venom or say things against any religion, community caste etc in the name of freedom of speechDont preach tolerance but respect and acceptance so that people whole heartedly respect and accept each other the way they are irrespective of their religious beliefs / ethnic background rather than tolerating each otherEnsure that everyone has the right to freely practice, profess and change his or her beliefs without any fear from any one (esp the state)Ensure that govt allows and support people to nurture their languages and cultures to ensure multiculturalismEnsure that the media remains neutral and not take biases against or for a specific ethnic communityEnsure that all the political parties of the country run on the basis of a unified national agenda instead of a specific linguistic, religious or ethnic community hence there should be no political party which does politics on the basis of caste religion, language etc. as the same will only divide the people. Rather political parties should address the issues faced by common people like illiteracy, poverty, unemployment etc.Quota system and reservation should not be allowed and if allowed should only be on the basis of income levels or socio economic backwardness rather then religion, language, province caste
