St. Francis Church, in Kochi was built in 1503.  

The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524. His body was put to rest in this church but was eventually shifted to Lisbon after fourteen years.  The church in Kochi continues to have the grave with his tombstone.
