- The major reasons for poverty in India are casteism, belief in untouchability, rituals and customs, traditions and reservedness.
- Hence, the poor are forced to certain labour oriented works. Since the work is less productive they receive low wages. Thus, social backwardness is the major cause of economic backwardness.
