There are two or more levels of government. India has 3.

1. Each level of government has its own jurisdiction in matters of legislation, taxation and administration even though they govern the same citizens.

2. Power and functions of each tier of government I is specified and guaranteed by constitution.

3. The Supreme court has been given power to settle disputes between different levels of government.

Indian is a quasi-federal polity. The features of federalism in India are:

1) Sharing of power between the central government and states

2) Sharing of the areas of legislations among the Centre and states, i.e. Union List, State List and the Concurrent List

3) Independence of Judiciary

4) Separation of powers between the executive, legilature and the judiciary

5) Well defined sources of revenue and taxation system.

These all makes India a federal country.
