Three measures which point to the policy of social discrimination followed by the British in India :-

  1. The educated Indians were not appointed on high posts. High posts in civil and military services were only reserved for the British. Their chances of promotion were also weak
  2. In 1878, the Arms Act was passed by the British government. According to this Act, no Indian could possess weapons without a valid license. However, the Europeans and the Anglo Indians were allowed to keep arms without license. This caused resentment amongst the Indians.
  3. In several parks and buildings, only the British and Europeans were allowed.
