The Britishers wanted to use the forests of India. Therefore, between 1847 and 1850 the British rule recognised the fact that the forests in India were being fallen. As a result of this concerned, the British Association in Edinburgh created a commission under the leadership of Hugh Cleghorn to examine forest destruction.
Dietrich Brandis was a Botanist from Germany- Britain, who became the Inspector General of Forests in India in 1864. He gave some ideas to conserve the forests of India including:
1. the need to train people in the science of conservation,
2. implementation of the new rules with regard to the forest,
3. restriction of grazing in the forests.
And the British government of India with his assistance passed the Indian Forest Act of 1865.
