Eight reasons democracy still comes up short: ... Democracy typically works better for those who receive the most benefits. Disadvantages of representative democracies include that: representatives may distort peoples' demands to suit their political preferences. representatives may not make make themselves accountable enough between elections and can only be removed by elections if they lose the respect of the people.

Advantages-

  • It promotes equality- Generally, democracy is based on the rule of equality, which means that all people are equal as far as the law is concerned.
  • It gives the people the right to vote- One of the rewards of living in a democratic state or country is the freedom to elect representatives and leaders they prefer through an electoral process.

Disadvantages-

  • It risks the wrong choice of public servants- Truth be told, not all individuals under a democratic government are aware of the political and social circumstances in their country.
  • It can take long to make decisions- Because it takes long to make decisions, it will also take long to implement them.
