The first change was that, Awadhi people were declared non martial and were not given chance to fight in the army as because their participation in the 1857 revolt was huge.

With this the main army recruits were from Nepali Gurkhas, Punjabis and Pathans.

The second change was the increase in ratio of British compared to Indians.
