The growing lawlessness created by annexation of Awadh deeply affected trade in the region

It created mass unemployment and thousands were left jobless

There was huge inflation in the economy which benefited some merchants 

the annexation of awadh threw thousands of nobles out of their jobs
sepoys in British army who held their land in awadh had to pay higher taxes
British took away all the estates of nobles and zamindars
