1. Rowlact Act

The Rowlact act was passed in 1919 .It was hurried passed through the Imperial legislative assembly despite the unanimous opposite of the Indian members. It gave enormous powers to the colonial government to repress Indian nationalist political activities and detain Indian political prisoners without trial for upto two years.

2. Vernacular press act

It was passed in 1878 and was modelled on the Iris press laws. This act allowed the government to keep an eye on the various newspaper and periodicals published in the country. If a report was judged seditious ,the press was given warning.
