India's crop productivity is one of the lowest in the world. There are many reasons for it :

1) Low level of mechanization of agriculture and predominance of subsistence agriculture.

2) Lack of adequate availability of assured irrigation facilities in the country.

other then these are also various other causes

3) Declining per capita availability of land to farmers and land fragmentation.

4) poor quality of seeds

5) low level of banking and insurance facilities.
