  • Chemicals such as carbonic acid formed from the reaction of CO2 and rain, dissolve or weaken the rocks to cause weathering. Two factors responsible for weathering of rocks are : a)climate conditions: It includes elements of weather such as temperature, wind,rainfall, humidity and air pressure etc.

The two factors which are responsible for physical weathering :'

  1. Pressure
  2. warm temperatures
  3. water and ice.

  • Physical weathering is caused by the effects of changing temperature on rocks, causing the rock to break apart.

Example:-

  • Swiftly moving water.

  • Ice wedging.

  • Plant roots.
